Sri Lanka's GDP has grown by 4 percent, says Central Bank [4 Jan 2000] Sri Lanka is expected to record a 5 percent growth rate for the year 2000 according to the Director Economic Research of the Central Bank R.A. Jayatissa, as many sectors in the economy have improved after the second half of 1999. Mr. Jayatissa revealed this to the Daily News and also stated that Sri Lanka's GDP has arisen by 4 percent in the third quarters of 1999 giving the full growth rate for the whole 1999 year as 4 percent. The Service Sector is to have contributed largely to the improved performance in the third quarter by 53 percent of the GDP growth rate. This upturn of the economy is expected to continue this year as well.
