CID Questions head of a Government media institution

The CID has questioned a head of a Government media institution head in connection with the alleged conspiracy to assassinate President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga, CID sources said.

     It has been revealed that this particular section of the Sate media has been used to assist the plot to assassinate the President. Further the CID revealed to the Daily News that the questioning was able to disclose so many connected matters which helped the investigation.

     Several persons have volunteered to give their co-operation to find whatever the information the CID needed. Suspicion was aroused immediately after the bomb blast from the conduct of several private media institutions, the behavior of two editors of private newspapers and certain Army personnel, the CID told the Daily News.

     Wife of a private bank Managing Director was also intensively questioned by the CID during the last few days. Several other businessmen are also to be called in for questioning, according to certain revelations made by her, the Daily News said. They have been alleged to have funded the UNP and the LTTE and have also been disappointed and frustrated in their failures to achieve tender bids for large government contracts.
