The United National Party yesterday filed a petition in the Supreme Court, challenging the election of Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga as President of Sri Lanka. In the petition, the general Secretary of the UNP, Gamini Atukorala requested Supreme Court to declare the election void stating that the election was not free and fair. President Kumaratunga, Election Commissioner Dayananda Dissanayake, and Former Acting Election Commissioner Mr. D.M.P.B. Dissanayake are among the respondents.
