A powerful bomb was detected and found with two detonators yesterday morning at Jampettah Lane in the Kotahena police area, a day after a parcel bomb addressed to President Kumaratunga was safely defused, police sources said. The latest discovery heightened fears that LTTE terrorists are preparing to launch a fresh wave of suicide bombing attacks against politicians and other VIPs, the Midweek Mirror said. The bomb had contained 250 grams of C4 type high explosives and was found near a housing scheme where three police DIG's are said to be residing. A senior police officer walking past had noticed a suspicious looking parcel wrapped in a plastic bag and had alerted the local police station. According to The Island police had said that a terrorist may have thrown away the bomb seeing a police patrol. However, the bomb had had two detonators and some 1,500 ball bearings which was capable of causing a massive damage if exploded in a crowded area, the Midweek Mirror revealed. The police was on the process of holding investigations regarding the mystery letter bomb that was sent to President Kumaratunga at the time of discovering this powerful bomb at Kotahena.
