Parents of the woman suicide bomber : Real daughter still in Colombo on a suicide mission

[19 Jan 2000]

A senior police investigator revealed to The Island yesterday that the parents of the woman suicide bomber who blasted herself outside the Prime minister's office on January 5, turned out to be the parents of another suicide cadre now in Colombo on a suicide mission.

The couple was arrested as per the national identity card issued to the name of their daughter Thilakaratnam Yashoda. The parents had claimed that the face did not belong to their daughter who joined the LTTE in November 1998 after they were shown the bomber's mutilated body. The police at first did not believe in what the couple said and sought to conduct DNA tests to establish the identity of the bomber and blood samples were drawn from them and the remains of the suicide bomber, said The Island.

Also it has been revealed to The Island that the LTTE had used Yashoda's identity card to send in another woman bomber who exploded herself outside the Prime Minister's office. According to investigations Yashoda too has slipped into Colombo on a suicide mission under someone else's national identity card.
