It has been revealed from LTTE's clandestine Radio 'Voice of Tigers' recent announcements that the LTTE has lost a large number of top military leaders including a Major called Klee when the Government security forces repulsed a series of attacks on the strategically important Elephant Pass camp, security sources revealed to the Daily News. According to intercepted LTTE radio transmissions by the Security Forces the LTTE is now believed to be facing an acute manpower crisis. About 300 LTTE cadres have been killed following the death of their commander Major Klee at the Elephant Pass battlefield. The 'Voice of Tigers' reported these cadres as killed or missing in action, Daily News said. The LTTE has also lost two leading Captains called Naday and Vedhu during confrontations in Elephant Pass and among the cadres killed were three women Captains.
The intention of the LTTE was to open a corridor
to the Jaffna peninsula from the jungles in the Mulaitivu districts and
they had been constantly launching attacks from December 10 last year. But
the security forces were able to foil their attempts successfully with
counter attacks keeping the Elephant Pass intact.
