Three civilians among the eight killed in Vavuniya bomb blast
[28 Jan 2000]

Three civilians and three Army personnel were among the dead while the other two bodies have not being yet identified as being either members of the security forces or civilians, military sources revealed referring to the bomb blast at the Vavuniya post office yesterday.

Forty five women had been among the fifty seven civilians who were injured from the explosion.

About 100 people had been in the post office including many security forces personnel.

According to police reports, they have started to quiz persons who had not reported for work yesterday. Security authorities suspect that an employee of the Vavuniya post office whom the LTTE had made used of had placed the bomb.

Police investigations are in progress regarding the blast and security had further strengthened in and around Vavuniya following the incident.
