A popular vocalist couple, Rukantha Gunatilleke and Chandralekha Perera were terrorised and robbed by an armed gang, who formed into their Mattegoda residence on Wednesday night, police sources revealed. The armed gang about ten, have stormed the couple's house with T-56 weapons had manhandled the artistes. Because of their raised cries the gang had escaped when neighbors were rushing to the scene. The attackers have stolen the couple's valuables and their Rs. 3.2 million Nissan Patrol luxury vehicle before fleeing the scene.
Secretary to the President has requested Inspector
General Police Lucky Kodithuwakku to launch a full investigation into the
incident. Accordingly, a special police team is now conducting
investigations to trace the armed gang, official sources said.
