Sivalingam assassination was Tiger payback for speech
[04 March 2000]
A speech made in the Jaffan Municipal Council calling on the government to hold talks with the EPDP and not with the LTTE, led directly to the death of the council member, Anton Sivalingam, according to government sources.

Sivalingam made his ill-fated speech on the day before he was shot dead by an LTTE pistol gang.

Tiger's pistol gang is known to eliminate those who cross the path of the LTTE especially those who attempt to represent the Tamil people.

According to reports, Mr. Sivalingam has had cross talks with the TULF's Chelliah Wijeyaratnam during the last meeting.
