A Sri Lankan professor who had lived in the United States for some time was arrested yesterday in Rajagiriya by an army intelligence unit in connection with the LTTE attack at Rajagiriya last Friday.

The professor, who is alleged to be an LTTE member, is believed to have run a gem cutting and polishing industry at Samanala Lane in Rajagiriyta for the past one and a half years, while using the premises as a research centre.

Suspicions about the professor were raised by the LTTE suspects who were arrested in Dehiwala and Pettah on Sunday following the Borella attack.

The gem cutting centre had been operated from LTTE funds, official sources said.

The arrested suspect had lived in the United States for some time and after his arrival to Sri Lanka had resided in Rajagiriya. The suicide cadres in the Rajagiriya attack are alleged to have frequently visited the professor's house.

The suspect was handed over to the Crime Detective Bureau (CDB) for further investigation.

Police said that LTTE explosive experts have infiltrated the Colombo City and are living among the civilians disguised as businessmen and students.
