Foreign university professor released
[15 Mar 2000]

A Sri Lankan Tamil professor arrested on Monday was released yesterday after preliminary investigations failed to establish a link between the former foreign university don and Friday's terrorist attack at Rajagiriya

The professor was detained after police had received a tip-off that the suspect had closed his office at Samanala Lane, Rajagiriya, earlier than usual because he had prior knowledge of the terrorist attack.

However, during the intense investigation, it was revealed that the professor who managed the gem cutting and polishing business had no involvement in the Rajagiriya carnage.

Several other people have been arrested in connection with the attack, including a security guard employed by a private firm to guard the land from where the LTTE mounted the Friday's attack.
