President the obstacle for bipartisan consensus, says UNP
[16 Mar 2000]]

The UNP has accused President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga as being the greatest obstacle to peace and bipartisan consensus between the PA and the UNP.

UNP Secretary General Gamini Athukorale, referring to the President's recent interview with the Far Eastern Economic Review, said that the UNP denies allegations leveled by President Kumaratunga in that interview regarding UNP and LTTE collaboration to assassinate the President.

He said that the President has proved that the greatest obstacle to peace and bipartisan consensus between the two parties is herself.

The two parties will be meeting today for talks regarding constitutional reforms at Temple Trees.
