Opposition
leader Ranil Wickremasinghe will meet President Kumaratunga at Temple
Trees today for the second round of talks on Constitutional reforms. At the
first round of talks the two parties had agreed to continue talks on a
weekly basis. They have fixed dates for talks on a weekly basis. Today's
talks will be based on the devolution part of the proposals presented to
Parliament in 1997. The same
delegation that took part in the first round of discussions will participate in today's talks. The Sri
Lanka Muslim Congress has appealed to the UNP to include minority
representatives in their party when participating in talks with the
government. The UNP
had also accused President Kumaratunga of unfairly linking the UNP and the LTTE
after the assassination attempt on her last year. However, sources say investigations have revealed evidence of a plot, exposed by several taped telephone conversations, which involved some high profile businessmen as well as military personnel. Media reports too were
published against the opposition soon after assassination attempt that
made the UNP's over-confidence
about victory were very suspicious, the sources said.
