Germany
shows disapproval of Tamil rebel activities : Tamil refugees deported [20
Mar 2000]
Apparently
expressing their disapproval towards Tamil rebel activities in Germany,
German authorities have begun to crack down on Sri Lankan illegal
immigrants.
The
applications for asylum of the twenty deportees who included six persons
over fifty years, were rejected by the German authorities. Two of them who
are being held by the CID for further questioning arrived in Colombo on
Thursday morning accompanied by 35 border policemen.
"We
felt that the German authorities have changed their attitude on the ethnic
issue and are gradually taking tough action against the Sri Lankans,"
Thuraisingham Bavanandan, one of the deportees said.
The
German government from last years had strengthened procedures for asylum
seekers and has also stepped up visa checking.
Germany
has tightened its immigration regulations on mostly Tamil youth who are
slipping out of the country to other neighboring countries.
The LTTE
has a wide network of front organizations, which actively collect funds
for its terrorist activities, often operating under the guise of
charitable, welfare to cultural organizations in a number of foreign
countries.
According
to political sources the LTTE's backlash against the Sri Lankan Government
through brutal assassinations on the civilian population is condemned by
foreign countries, especially when the government and the people are
attempting to resolve the ethnic conflict.
