If there was a cut in UN funding to Sri Lankan the future, it would be as a result of less money being made available by the Member States for development work globally.

Sri Lanka not included in the UN funding cut list, says UN representative
[23 Mar 2000]

In response to the numerous media inquiries regarding the UN funding cuts to Sri Lanka, the office of the UN Resident Coordinator in press release stated that there were no new funding cuts currently planned by the UN in Sri Lanka.

The UN funding agencies are separately financed through voluntary annual contributions from Member States. Periodically, these UN bodies communicate to recipient countries a projection of the resources to be made available for each country over a multi-year period based on anticipated contributions from Member States. The actual level of funding made available may fluctuate depending on the level of contributions subsequently received from Member States on a year-by-year basis, the press release stated.

If there was a cut in UN funding to Sri Lankan the future, it would be as a result of less money being made available by the Member States for development work globally.

However, reports of cuts in the order of 50 per cent to the UN programs in Sri Lanka have no basis in fact, the release said.
