Seven senior Army officers including three Major Generals were sent on compulsory retirement effective from Wednesday after a three member committee appointed by President Kumaratunga to probe last year's Oddusudan military set back, allegedly found them guilty of insubordination. The
officers sent on retirement included two Major Generals, a Brigadier, a
Colonel and three Majors. Tigers
broke the defence lines last year, the eight key installations along the
highway linking northern Jaffna Peninsula with the rest of the
country's provinces. The military officials were later questioned regarding the setback in which the military suffered heavy casualties and suffered substantial damage. They were alleged to
have supported the UNP and the LTTE, since the incident took place just
before the presidential elections.
