However, according to government sources, the northern people are determined to undergo any difficulty in order to develop Jaffna with the assistance of the government and the security forces to create a peaceful atmosphere for which they have been dreaming of.

 


Govt signs agreement with FAO to assist Jaffna farmers, fishermen

The Sri Lankan government signed an agreement with the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) to provide US$364,500 worth of agricultural and fisheries inputs for resettled farmers and fishermen in the Jaffna, Mannar and Vavuniya Districts, a FAO press release said. 

The main objective of this project is to help 6,000 farmer families and 600 displaced fishing families in the three districts. The project also aims at further improvement of training capacities of the District Agricultural Training Centres (DATC) in Jaffna and Vavuniya. 

Food insecurity of about 6,600 families would be alleviated increasing their income generation capacity.  

The capacity of the DATCs of Jaffna and Vavuniya for assisting displaced farming families of the region will be strengthened and about 1,000 farmers will be trained in horticulture production, poultry management and seed multiplication.
