Newly appointed Norwegian special advisor Erik Solheim had been very much involved in the discussions that had taken place with the Sri Lankan government attended by former Foreign Minister Knut Vollebaek, diplomatic sources said. Mr. Solheim had made a follow-up visit to Sri Lanka even after Mr. Vollebaek held his talks in February this year. "He has been here many, many times recently but his visits were not noticed by the press," diplomatic sources revealed. "Mr. Solheim has been involved in the process for a long time and is certainly not a novice or a new comer". Mr. Solheim was appointed last week as special advisor in Osolo's efforts to broker a peace deal in Sri Lanka. He would be making a visit in his official capacity in the near future. "The dates have not been finalised," they said. He is a Member of Parliament for the Social Left Party, which has nine seats in the Norwegian parliament. His past visits to Sri Lanka had came after he sought leave from Parliament on a personal capacity. "He is highly respected by every party and is not a controversial figure in Norway. Everyone was pleased with his appointment. He is very interested in foreign relations".
