Several NGO's decided yesterday, to stage a march to the Royal Norwegian Embassy, in support of Norway's role in Sri Lanka's ethnic conflict, sources said. It was also decided that the organisations which staged a protest rally last Thursday, should apologise to the Norwegian government for burning the national flag of Norway and opposing Norwegian intervention into peace talks, in Sri Lanka. According to reports, they expressed regret over the protest last Thursday, and said that it was held at a time when Norway was trying to play a useful role in solving the conflict. The decision to stage the march was made at a meeting at the Centre for Society and Religion (CSR) headquarters, where several NGO's, including the National Peace Council (NPC), Sarvodaya and CSR met. Sources say that the NGO's have not yet decided a date for
the meeting, but would march to the Embassy with placards expressing
support and will also launch a poster campaign to promote the principle of
third party facilitation in the Sri Lankan conflict.
