LTTE bus bombs expert arrested

Police arrested four LTTE suspects last week, including a bomb expert in connection with the recent bomb blasts in public transport services.

"Mahadevan", who is said to be an explosives expert and a group Tiger leader was taken into custody at a police check point at Welikanda. The suspect had been fleeing from a police team attached to Negombo police that has raided his residence at Pandirippuwa in Kalmunai area on a tip-off.

The other two Tiger suspects were arrested from a jewellery shop at Negombo, and another from Modera. 

The suspects Shanthalingam and Ramalingam Ibbarasa had been employed as goldsmiths in Negombo. The other suspect Kirubakaran, who was posing as a building contractor was arrested in Modera.

Mahadevan have already confessed to police that he had planted one bomb in a public transport bus, which exploded in Polgahawela town on January 30 and another in a Colombo-bound bus from Kyurunegala, which exploded in the Kadawata town on February 3.

According to him the bombs were manufactured in Negombo where he had lived for some time. 

He also confessed that on an order of "Winson", the leader of the explosive unit at the Periyaporathivu LTTE camp, he brought parts of the bombs with another LTTE cadre called "Babu" via Porathivu bridge, Kalawanchikudi, Kalmunai, Ampara, Moneragla, Wellawaya and Ratnapura to Negombo.

The suspects were remanded under detention orders.
