Tamils in Canada who are becoming increasingly concerned of being identified with the LTTE which has been exposed for conducting criminal activities in Canada, were angered further after the Tigers faxed their "notice", urging the Tamils with warnings to stay away from the seminar arranged by the Sri Lankan High Commission in Ottawa, where Sri Lankan Acting Foreign Minister Lakshman Kiriella was scheduled to talk with Tamils in Canada. The angered Tamil citizens had complained that they were living in a free country and that the LTTE cannot tell them which meetings they can or cannot attend. Despite LTTE efforts to intimidate and sabotage the meeting, more than 90% of the Tamils invited had accepted to attend the seminar. Sri Lankan High Commissions and Embassies all over the world have bee trying hard to bring together the many Sri Lankan racial, cultural and religious groups, by organising discussions, seminars, etc. in an effort to reconcile and to build bridges. Several of these efforts have succeeded to the great annoyance of the LTTE, whose strategy is one of trying to isolate Tamils in order to keep them within an "Eelamist" constituency for fund raising and political reasons. However, Minister Kiriella was urgently called away by the government from his planned visits and appointments in Canada and the UK due to an emergency, and LTTE's boasting to the Tamils that the cancellation of the seminar was a result of their actions and a sign of their power and influence, had further caused anger and frustration among the Tamil community in Canada.
