"The LTTE know that they are loosing with the Tamil parties supporting the government and working on a political solution.

The government has already held discussions with the minority parties regarding constitutional reforms to arrive at a solution.

Hence, it is clear that the LTTE do not want to be involved with the government or the Tamil parties to achieve a solution for the cause that they are claiming to be fighting for," political sources said.

LTTE vows to eliminate rival Tamil parties
[19 Apr 2000]

The LTTE warned the other Tamil militant groups that it had no alternative other than to wipe out the Tamil groups now involved with the government forces in counter-offensives, if they do not join the LTTE in an attempt to create an independent state for the Tamil minority.

This was revealed during an interview with the Sunday Leader newspaper, by a Tiger political leader of a village in the eastern province.

Referring to these groups which are the PLOTE,TELO and EPRLF that are now a part of the democratic mainstream, the LTTE cadre Partheeban accused them of being traitors of the Tamil cause.

"They are stooges of Ammayar (a reference to Sri Lankan President Chandrika Kumaratunga). We have blood on our hands. If they don't join us to fight to create a state, they would be wiped out," he said.

The one legged leader added that the Tamil groups are sitting on the lap of the government and are stealing money from the Tamil masses. "They have built villas in Colombo and are living extravagantly," he said.

He also said that the LTTE was not against the Sinhala people but only against "Ammayar" who was hoodwinking the Tamils, with the support of the racist elements in the Sinhala south. Referring to the present 'talks about talks' between the LTTE and the Sri Lankan government with Norwegian facilitation, Partheeban warned, "If no concerete efforts are made we will do what our Thalaivar (Prabhakaran) has ordered - an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth".

In response to this, a leader of a rival militant group, who is also an MP has stated that such threats were nothing new, and rivals cadres and leaders were being periodically slaughtered since 1985.

Because of the escalating human violence of the Tigers, Tamils both local and abroad have started to wonder from recent times, about LTTE tactics and threats springing up in various forms to slow down the peace process that the present government is attempting hard to implement with the assistance of Norway.
