A
boat carrying fuel and other essential items to the LTTE controlled area
in Vonkalpadu in Mannar was taken into custody on Monday by police,
sources said. According
to sources, police had opened fire when the boat failed to heed police
orders to stop and a suspect injured in the police fire was admitted to
the Mannar hospital. The
items found in the boat included one barrel of petrol, two barrels of
diesel, 200 biscuit packets, toffee and a number of other essential items,
police said. The
two suspects had confessed to the police that the items were to be
delivered to an LTTE camp in Vedithalativu.
