The United National Party leader Ranil Wickremasinghe was scheduled to meet the Indian Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee but the meeting had not taken place, as Mr. Vajpayee was indisposed. Mr. Wickremasingheis planning to call on President K.R. Narayan, Congress leader Sonia Gandhi and leaders of other parties during his visit to India. He is also to interact with the business community. However, Indian Foreign Minister Jaswant Singh had met the opposition leader yesterday in New Delhi where they had discussed about the on going peace effort of the government with the assistance of Norway. The two had also discussed economic issues and Mr. Wickremasinghe had referred to the importance of medium and long-term, economic co-operation. Mr. Singh had also stressed that India would not support separatism nor will it ever accept the division of the island.
