The three most wanted LTTE suspects were taken into custody by a special police team attached to the Pettah police and later they were handed over to the CDB, Senior Superintendent of Police, Bandula Wickremasinghe said, yesterday. According to investigators, the LTTE cadres were running a 'mini kachcheri' at Pettah and police have recovered a number of forged birth and degree certificates, National Identity Cards (NIC) and several rubber stamps of senior government officials. The forged documents were handed over to the Examiner of Questioned Documents (EQD) for a comprehensive report, the CDB Director said. The LTTE suspects are believed to have supplied forged NICs to Tigers to stay in safe houses in Colombo and also to transport explosives from Vavuniya to Colombo. The CDB appeals to the public to assist them in tracing these safe houses, where the LTTE suspects had been living. Earlier six persons from the North were taken into custody residing at Dehiwela and Sea Street, Colombo, who allegedly assisted the suicide bombers at Rajagiriya. The CDB is currently investigating on how the LTTE cadres brought heavy weapons to Colombo.
