With the Indian Ministry of External Affairs looking into the matter, other damaging remarks have been revealed in an English transcript of Vaiko's Tamil speech made at a pro-Tamil rally on April 1st , in Geneva. Along with remarks that New Delhi was distancing itself from Vaiko's threats, a ministry spokesman said that the problems in Sri Lanka should be resolved within the " framework of the unity, territorial integrity and sovereignty" of that country. According to Vaiko, it is necessary for the Tamil nation to have single nation, a single country and a single language. Today the motherland of Tamil people has become a cemetery ' scattered with corpses', he said. The controversial remark made by Vaiko and reported in the national and international press is the following: " She needs to be lucky every time but we need to be lucky only once". The MDMK leader is referring to the President who barely escaped an attack recently, but lost an eye in the blast. Following the remark, Sri Lankan Foreign Minister, Lakshman Kadirgamar sent a letter to Jaswant Singh, formally protesting the indirect threat made to the President, particularly in a third country. Colombo has also expressed displeasure on Vaiko making his remarks on Swiss soil. At the pro Tamil rally in Geneva the MDMK leader eulogised Prabhakaran, whose LTTE group is banned in India since the assasination of Rajiv Gandhi.
