The suspects being residents of Vavuniya and Colombo had used the credit card of a Canadian resident, sources said. Also, having bought consumer items to the value of Rs.60, 000, at once, triggered a certain amount of suspicion as to whether the group was transporting food items to the LTTE in the North. According to Senior Superintendent of Police, W.P Dayaratne, goods including consumer items worth over Rs. 1 lakh has been found in a house in Colombo. The items include milk powder, other dry rations, cigarettes and gold jewellery. A Muslim belonging to the group escaped during the arrest, police said.
