Suspected LTTE terrorists brought from Jaffna, escape after admitting to National Hospital
[02 May 2000]

Two patients out of the nine Tamil patients brought down by the ICRC from Jaffna to be admitted to Colombo National Hospital on Saturday, escaped, while the official documents for the admittance of these patients were being prepared.

According to police investigations, the nine patients brought down to Colombo were residents of Jaffna and they had been accompanied by a nurse.

Police, believing the two patients to be Tigers terrorists said that this is another ploy adopted by the Tigers to enter Colombo City.

Dr. Hector Weerasinghe, Director Colombo National Hospital, admitting the disappearance said that the two patients concerned were not that critical to be brought down from Jaffna to be admitted to the Colombo national hospital.

He also said that the moment the two were found missing, a complaint was lodged at the Maradana police.

Maradana police is conducting investigations regarding the missing terrorist suspects.
