The Canadian Security Intelligence Services [CSIS] said in a report published yesterday that Canada is being used by many terrorist organisations, including the LTTE, as an operating base. An AFP report stated that a disturbing trend has occurred due to the terrorists who are currently organising activities such as fund raising, arms procurement, planning and preparing terrorists act from Canadian territory. "Those who freely choose to raise funds to sustain terrorist organizations bear the same guilt and the responsibility as those who actually carry out terrorists attacks", CSIS said. The report added terrorist organisations have abused Canada's immigration, passport, welfare, charity regulations and the LTTE separatist group operating in Sri Lanka has entered Canada illegally in September 1998. CSIS also said that it was monitoring activities of 50 organisations and 350 individuals in the country and the majority linked to their parent organisations abroad. Not only LTTE organisations but also several others have continued to expand their organisational activities within Canada. US officials arrested an Algerian national at the border for trying to smuggle explosive material from Canada into United States. These organizing parties include Irish Republican Army [IRA], Kurdistan Worker's Party and Peoples' Mujahedeen fighting against the government of Iran. The report showed the prominence of the activities of the terrorist organisations within Canada.
