Foreign diplomats are mounting pressure on India, but the military commitment it has on the border with Pakistan could be one of the causes for India's reluctance to offer military assistance to Sri Lanka, political analysts said.

Pakistan to offer political support to Sri Lanka

Pakistan will continue to support and uphold the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Sri Lanka said Pakistan Foreign Ministry spokesman Tariq Altaf said on Thursday at a news briefing.

He declined to specify the nature of the help sought and ruled out but however stated that there was no question of Pakistan sending any troops but there could be a general political support.

"There have been contacts and they have asked for help as much as I think they have asked for help from India," he added.

"I am not suggesting that the nature of help sought from the two countries was identical because I do not know exactly what is the nature of help sought from India," he revealed.
