Around thirty members of the United
National Party staged a protest rally near Colombo's Independence square
yesterday, against the government's new regulations. The Public Security Ordinance put forward
by the government recently, goes side by side with its decision to put the
country on a war footing. It allows the government to seize any land or
property including vehicles and other assets when necessary, under
emergency regulations. A large number of UNP supporters who were
expected to turn up for the protest, did not do so, saying that they
didn't know the consequences with the PSO in force, sources claim.
