An aircraft flying to Malaysia made an unscheduled stop at the Bandranayake International Airport (BIA) on Thursday due to the violent behavior of an intoxicated British passenger, who forced the pilot to deviate from the normal route. The passenger, Robert Marshall who was aboard a Martinair flight from Amsterdam, was yesterday ordered to be arrested at Katunayake Police and produced before the Negombo Magistrate. The Magistrate also summons the BIA manager on duty at the time to appear in court after the police complained that they were prevented from carrying out their duties by officials of the airport. These officials had prevented the police from making an immediate arrest on the grounds that the passenger had not landed in Sri Lanka legitimately. Police is conducting further investigations.
