LTTE has started to recruit by force, Tamil school children in uncleared areas in the East and Wanni, with parents strongly protesting to LTTE political leaders against the conscription, the Special Media Information Center in a press communiqué reported. This was mainly due to the loss of 460 tiger cadres in the battles, which took place at the Elephant Pass, during the past few weeks. However, in previous cases too, the LTTE had forcibly abducted school children to the armed conflict, sources said. Although the UN Special Representative on Children in Armed Conflict had earlier assured that it would stop the recruitment of children, it is now only left in black and white, military officials said. It is reported that the LTTE uses young children in the age of 10 as the minimum age of admission.
