During the investigations into the LTTE attack at Rajagiriya on March 10, the Colombo Detective Bureau (CDB) arrested a government sector officer from Vavuniya who is alleged to have prepared the forged national identity cards for the LTTE suspects. The terrorists were killed during the shoot out when their plan, aimed at a possible VIP target, failed. The investigations have revealed that the LTTE had paid a sum of Rs. 10,000 to the government officer to forge the national identity cards. The third party who had actually prepared the forged national identity cards for the LTTE suspects was paid only Rs. 1,000. The suspect, a government employee has told the investigators that parents in Vavuniya were forced to hand over their grown up sons to the LTTE. "If we refuse, our lives would be at stake," he said. The investigation had taken six persons into custody from the North, residing at Dehiwala and Sea Street. They have alleged to have assisted the group of LTTE suicide bombers. The attack in Rajagiriya killed 18 persons including eight policemen, injuring 74 persons.
