A member of the Valikamam South Pradeshiya Sabha (PS) was shot dead in Jaffna yesterday, being allegedly yet another act on the part of the LTTE, against democracy in the country. According to reports, Santhanam Kandeepan, aged 30, representing the Eelam People’s Democratic Party (EPDP) was shot dead by unidentified youth in Jaffna, suspected to be of the LTTE, around 12.30 p.m yesterday. The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, in their fight for a separate homeland in Sri Lanka, claim that they are warring for the rights of thousands of Tamil people, but at the same time, the number of civilians in war-torn areas of the country, who are victimised are numerous.
