Security Forces repulsed a major attack on Colombuthurai and Kaithady on Tuesday night. The ground troops were backed by artillery and the airforce to attack enemy targets, a press release by the Special Media Information Centre, said yesterday. Thirty terrorists were killed in attacks, and more terrorists suffered casualties at Kaithady. The Armoured Fighting Vehicles destroyed boats bringing artillery from Pooneryn to Colombuthurai mainland. Troops did not suffer losses in these attacks but managed to regain some territory. Same day, troops recaptured a bunker, which was manned by the LTTE. Nine bodies were found in a bunker situated West of Navatakuli on the Kandy- Jaffna highway. The Center stated that despite terrorist mortars and artillery attacks on residential areas, the majority remained in their homes in Jaffna and Chavakachcheri. Troops on Tuesday shifted their positions to Thanankillappu more towards the northeast, said the press communiqué released by the Special Media Information Center. The ground troops were readjusted in view of the heavy mortar and artillery attacks. These attacks left six soldiers and one officer dead, and five officers wounded.
