The LTTE will not be allowed to gain a foothold in Jaffna, Northern Security Forces Commander, Major General Janaka Perera said, last Saturday. Speaking at a television interview, Major General Perera said “ I wish to state categorically that the enemy has not captured Jaffna, nor will we allow them to gain any foothold on this Northern city.” He requested all citizens to refrain from spreading such rumours, because it would only support the LTTE cause, he said, adding that at this crucial moment the moral support of the people was needed to defeat the enemy. “Everyone’s support and advice is needed to conduct this war to a successful completion”, he said.
