Sources claim around fifteen thousand Indian troops have been moved to India’s Thiruvananthapuram and nightly movement of aircrafts along the Thiruvanthapuram-Colombo air corridor have been observed. Colombo and New Delhi have worked out the details of the assistance India would give to Sri Lankan troops, currently warring against the LTTE, despite earlier clarifications by the Indian Defence Minister that there would be no military intervention in Sri Lanka’s issue, on their part, Deputy Foreign Minister Lakshman Kiriella who arrived in Chennai en route to Bangalore on Saturday said. Indian Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee announced that Delhi was “ready” to take some steps, sources confirm. However, details regarding the assistance were not given out and Minister Kiriella pointed out that Foreign Minister, Lakshman Kadirgamar, has discussed assistance from India.
