LTTE leader sent on a mission to Colombo arrested

The Colombo Detective Bureau (CDB) took twenty LTTE suspects in to custody including an LTTE woman leader named 'Gowri Amma', two male suicide bombers and an LTTE leader named Chandra Mohan.

According to sources Gowri Amma had received orders from Pottu Amman to blast the Mount Lavinia police station and assassinate several VIPs including Cabinet Ministers before the general election. Police said that a vehicle seized by the CDB was to take explosives to attack the Mount Lavinia police building.

The LTTE suspect who swallowed a cyanide capsule was rushed to the Colombo National Hospital. He is now being treated Intensive Care Unit, police said.

Investigations directed by Colombo DIG Bodhi Liyanage and conducted by Director CDB Senior SP Bandula Wickramasinghe have revealed that each LTTE suspect had three forged national identity cards.

In a separate mission conducted by special team of the Colombo Directive Bureau had recovered over 120 kilos of high explosives at Ukulan in Vavuniya recently.

More suspects are to be arrested according to investigators. The CDB special team also looking for suicide bomb kits which had been sent to Colombo from Vavunuya to be used for the killing of the VIPs.
