Norway continues to stand for peace in Sri Lanka

The State Secretary of the Norwegian Foreign Ministry, Raymond Johansen, of the new Norwegian Government, met the President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunge at Temple Trees.  Mr. Johansen apprised the President of the present status of the initiatives taken by his country, which was directly relating to the resolution of the current ethnic problem in Sri Lanka.  The President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunge, strongly stressed the Norwegian delegation of the need to establish a quick solution to end the ongoing conflict and appreciated the help that has offered by the Norway other friendly countries. 

The discussion was held at Temple Trees on Monday, with the presence of the President, Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadiragamar, President’s Secretary K. Balapatabendi and the Foreign Secretary Lionel Fernando. 

The Norwegian delegation comprised of Norwegian ambassador in Sri Lanka Jon Westborg, Special Advisor Eric Solheim, and Executive Officer of Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Keirsti Tromsdel. 

Mr. Johansen met the Leader of the Opposition, Ranil Wickramasinghe, prior to the discussion at Temple Trees.  Mr. Johansen had also met Lakshman Kadirgamar soon after his arrival in Sri Lanka.
