Tigers continued to attack mortars in midnight on Wednesday, towards Kalladi village south of Batticaloa killing civilians including children. The mortars fired by the LTTE, which were targeted at the Kallady military camp, had fallen on the house of Vadivel Shanmugamoorthy of 4th Cross, Kali Kovillady at Velur Colony.
Among the persons who were dead were Shanmugammoorthy Dhayaseelan (12 years), Chandrakunmar Revathi (10 years), Chandrakumar Sathgee (7 years). Among the injured were Chandrakumar Ramesh (6 years) and Chandrakumar Sumanthan, a baby of seven and a half months.
The house of Shanmugammoorthy has been completely burnt due to the explosion. The carnage comes within seven days of the bomb blast at the pandal outside the Mangalaramaya Temple in Batticaloa on Vesak day, which fell on May 17, killing 22 civilians, which included nine civilians. Six children were also injured.
