US warships are allegedly moving towards the Arabian Sea indicating the support shown by Washington towards the Sri Lankan Forces fighting the LTTE in the North, sources confirm. A US Embassy spokesman in Colombo while confirming the movement of the warships in the Gulf towards the Arabian Sea denied that it had a connection with the security situation in the country but was just “routine”. Analysts say that the preparation of the location of US warships may be in lieu of US Under Secretary of State Thomas Pickering’s visit to Sri Lanka, on Monday. Pickering the highest-ranking career diplomat in the US Foreign Service is coming to Sri Lanka after his visit to Delhi, where he met with Indian authorities on the current situation in Sri Lanka. “The assessment is that the US warships were being moved towards the Southern Arabian Sea. The warships were possibly being re-located so that they could be moved towards Sri Lanka if required”, sources said.
