Troops repulse attacks despite LTTE mortar fire

LTTE artillery and mortar attacks on the Security Forces defences continued through Saturday at Colombuthurai and Chavakachcheri, with Troops engaging the terrorist positions with artillery, the Special Media Information Centre (SMIC) said, yesterday.

A group of Special Task Force (STF) personnel travelling from Vavuniya to Mannar in a jeep got caught to a terrorist claymore mine explosion at Nelunkulam on Friday. One Sergeant was killed and five STF personnel including a Superintendent were wounded in the incident.

According to the SMIC, terrorists launched a mortar attack and troops retaliated with medium artillery on Friday. They also confronted a group of terrorists west of Sarasalai and killed two Tigers and recovered military equipment and two assault rifles.

Two terrorists on a motorcycle were gunned down by troops operating at Chammani, yesterday afternoon.

Security Forces engaged two LTTE barges sailing in Kilaly Lagoon with Main Battle Tanks (MBT) on Friday.
