It has now been confirmed that the LTTE had declared the unilateral ceasefire in order to transport over 200 school children conscripted from Kaithady, Tanankillappu and Ariyalai in Jaffna to the Wanni mainland to undergo military training. Parents of some of these children have requested the Security Forces to intervene to save their children, the Special Media Information Centre, said. The LTTE has forces the residents of certain areas in Batticaloa to vacate their homes for unknown reasons. These areas include, 230 families from Parathicherai, 302 families from Kanankadah, 249 families from Karayankanthivu, 242 families from Kurunchamunai, 215 families from Mangikaddu, 532 families from Mandapathadi and 425 families from Karraveddi, reports confirm. These families have taken shelter in kovils schools and some even under trees. This inhuman act of the LTTE has completely disrupted the normal lives of civilians including the education of children and they are undergoing tremendous hardships. It has also been reported that some LTTE cadres have looted vacated homes and shops. The Tigers have banned civilians from using the Echanthive-Mankikadu Road, Aythiyamalai-Vavnathivu Road and the Kurunchanmanai- Vavnathivu Road causing severe inconvenience to the populace.
