The Police suspect LTTE arms among cleared containers 
[30 May 2000]

The recent incident where Police got hold over a load of forty-four containers are believed to be imported weapons for the LTTE.

The load was cleared from the Colombo Port redeeming forge documents disclosed as containing glass.

The Police stated, this happened nine times within the period of December 1999 to March 2000. 

The businessman of Makola, who imported the load was released on bail from Custom custody, and was re-arrested with his wharf clerk, transport agent, two Customs officers and Ports Authority store Keeper by the police.
