In consideration of the present conditions prevailing in the country, the President has appointed a committee headed by the Minister of Public Affairs and Plantations Ratnasiri Wickremanayake to look into the welfare activities of the armed forces and the police personnel. This committee will function under the Presidential Secretariat. Minister of Buddhasasana, Cultural and Religious Affairs Lakshman Jayakody, Minister of Samurdhi, Youth Affairs and Sports S. B. Dissanayake and Deputy Minister of Plan implementation and Parliamentary Affairs Shantha Premaratne are the other members of the committee. Her Excellency the President has directed the Minister Rathnasiri Wickremanayake to submit an interim report containing the observations of the committee within a week.
