A new organisation was formed recently named the Patriotic Parliamentarians Platform (PPP), comprising about 30 parliamentarians from the People’s Alliance and the United National Party to lobby against the LTTE both locally and internationally, sources said. The PPP met in parliament on Monday and appointed a 15-member committee of MPs, who held an emergency meeting that evening. Among the committee members are Minister Mahinda Wijesekera and the five Deputy Ministers representing the PA while John Amaratunga, Rukman Senanayake and a few others represent the UNP. According to a member of the committee, they hope to make representations to foreign missions and also want to urge the President and the Opposition Leader to give priority to defeating the LTTE.
