The Sri Lankan ambassador in Thailand, Karunatilaka Amunugama, said yesterday that a submersible vessel confiscated by Thai authorities is similar to that confiscated in Sri Lanka and allegedly belongs to the LTTE. Sources reveal that Phuket province is a transit point for Tigers who transport weapons, food and petrol to tiger areas in Sri Lanka. Sri Lankan authorities have repeatedly said that the LTTE are using an island off Phuket as a training base, but Thai authorities have denied the fact saying that they would never allow a terrorist group to operate on their soil. They did, however acknowledge that the area might have been used as a transit point. The Thai intelligence believes that there are many Sri Lankans in Thailand who are LTTE sympathisers and provide them with food and petrol.
