‘Tigers have exploited Canadian hospitality’ says Canadian envoy
[20 July 2000]

Former Canadian envoy in Sri Lanka Martin Collacott says that he is appalled at the way in which the LTTE are exploiting and abusing Canadian hospitality, Canada’s National Post reports.

“ While the Tigers have not committed outright acts of terrorism in Canada, they and their accomplices have been involved in a wide rage of criminal activities in this country, in addition to the extortion of huge payments from Tamils here,” Collacott said.

“ We owe it to the Canadian public and the many Tamil Canadians who came here to escape violence and intimidation to put an end to the activities and the influence of the Tigers and their supporters in Canada,” Collacott said in a recent article in the National Post.

According to him, support from Canadian sources has been the major factor in nurturing the bloody campaign of terrorism in Sri Lanka. Some Canadian leaders, he says, still refuse to admit that by backing the Federation of Associations of Canadian Tamils (FACT) a key front for Tigers in Canada, they are encouraging terrorism that has killed tens of thousands of Sri Lankans.
