Following the consensus reached between the PA and UNP on the proposed constitutional reforms, the EPDP expressed disappointment that when they met with the UNP on Wednesday, the meeting was chaired by Karu Jayasuriya and not UNP leader, Ranil Wickremasinghe, who was absent, sources revealed. “ We are disappointed that Ranil was not there and this was an affront to us. On the other hand at every meeting we had with the PA, the President was always present. She did not even delegate anyone to deputise for her even after the bomb attack last December, in which she was seriously injured,” an EPDP representative said. The representative also wanted to know why the UNP had changed a number of areas in the proposals put forward by the PA in October 1997.
